• Cervical Cryosurgery

  • Cervical cryosurgery is an in-office therapy that uses cold, compressed nitrogen gas to treat pre-cancerous tumors and to control bleeding in the cervix. Cyrosurgery is done while a patient is awake, is painless and does not require anesthetic.

    How Cervical Cryosurgery Works

A gynecologist will open the vaginal canal and insert a device called a “cryo probe” over abnormal tissue on the cervix. One in place, freezing nitrogen gas flows through the instrument, making the metal cold enough to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue.

For the treatment to be most effective, the freezing is done for three minutes, the cervix is allowed to thaw, then the freezing is repeated for another three minutes.

Although there are differing studies on results, cryosurgery has an effective rate of 77 to 96% for destroying abnormal cervical tissue.
